AllWays presents: Brecht/Weill’s “Happy End” Dec. 10-19 7:30PM

Happy END2
DOORS OPEN @ 7PM        SHOW @ 7:30      There are tickets held and available every night at the door!
Directed by Dennis Monn and Musical Director Harry Mayronne,
Happy End, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s follow-up to The
Threepenny Opera, opens at the Allways Lounge on December 10.  Happy End
premiered at Berlin’s Theater am Schiffbauerdamm on September 2, 1929 to much
controversy, and closed after only seven performances. Brecht’s script may have endured
harsh criticism, but Weill’s musical score fetched much lauded acclaim, cementing in
musical theatre history such hits as “Surabaya Johnny”, “The Bilbao Song”, and “The
Mandalay Song,” all now cabaret standards. It is a variation on the classic, time-worn tale
of the battle between good and evil, set in rough-and-tumble 1919 Chicago. Dennis
Monn and Harry Mayronne, the creative team behind The Threepenny Opera in 2010,
team up again to breathe new life into this much neglected Brecht/Weill collaboration.
Mayronne recently performed in Nina Hagen’s Brecht concert at the Theater am
Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin, where Happy End and The Threepenny Opera were both first
seen.  Joining him to perform the musical score is the popular musical group The Salt
Wives. In the cast are Levy Easterly, Pandora Gastelum, Ratty Scurvics, Chris Wecklein,
Elyse Manning, Owen Ever, Nicole Gruter, Renee Anderson, Marygoround, & Kenneth
 Woo.
