Amber Martin presents: Bathhouse Bette
January 31 @ 9:30 pm - 11:00 pm
It’s 1971. You’re in a hot steamy men’s bathhouse in NYC, wearing no more than a towel… Enter 26 year-old Bette Midler!
After 2 recent sold-out performances at Joe’s Pub in NYC, Amber Martin returns to her winter residency, with 4 shows (1/month) at The Allways Lounge in NOLA with Bathhouse Bette, her hilarious, loving tribute to early, Bathhouse-era Bette Midler.
Fri. Jan 31 – 9pm
Sat. Feb 15 – 9pm
Sat. Mar 14 – 9pm
Monday “Industry Night” Apr 6 – 9pm
This performance focuses on the early 70’s, when a 26 year-old, hungry, as-yet-unknown starlet, Bette Midler, got her chops as the resident firecracker chanteuse singing at the legendary Continental Baths for men, uptown (now a parking lot under The Ansonia). She earned her “camp” honors in the hot & steamy bathhouse, singing to men in towels, still wet from the pool and other dark spaces. Her also as-yet-unknown house accompanist was none other than Barry Manilow (Accompanied by Harry Mayronne in this show).
As per the fashion of bawdy Bette… copious amounts of singing, stories and dancing ensue! Amber will be performing live with her very special guests,
Kitten & Lou (NOLA/NYC/Seattle)
Puddin Taine (NOLA/NYC)
Kaetlin Kennedy (Portland, OR)
More Special guests with each show TBA!
In keeping with the fun-hearted spirit of the show, audience is encouraged to dress in your best bathhouse attire!
Here’s a rave review:
“Everything about (Martin) and her performance came across as Bette-like, but with her ballsy personal sense of freedom setting her tribute on fire in ways that were all her own” – Broadway World
